Windows 7 Beta 1 Versus Vista And XP

Although early for performance tests, Adrian Kingsley-Hughes of ZDNet has gone ahead and done some testing between Windows 7 Beta 1, Vista and XP. Surprisingly Windows 7 performed better in the majority of tests - at a time when stability of the operating system is expected over performance. Tests ranged from installation, boot and shutdown times to network file transfers and burning DVDs.
Rather than publish a series of benchmark results for the three operating systems (something which Microsoft frowns upon for beta builds, not to mention the fact that the final numbers only really matter for the release candidate and RTM builds), I’ve decided to put Windows 7, Vista and XP head-to-head in a series of real-world tests…
It may be too early to tell, but by the looks of it Microsoft might be getting this operating system right - stability and performance. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
